Actigall se utiliza para disolver cálculos biliares en pacientes que no necesitan extirpación de la vesícula biliar o en quienes deben evitar la cirugía debido a otros problemas médicos. Sin embargo, Actigall (ursodiol) solo funciona en pacientes cuyos cálculos biliares están compuestos de colesterol y funciona mejor cuando estos cálculos son pequeños y flotantes. También se utiliza para ayudar a prevenir los cálculos biliares en pacientes que siguen programas de pérdida de peso rápida. Actigall también se utiliza para tratar la cirrosis biliar primaria (CBP). La CBP es un trastorno autoinmune que causa problemas en el hígado y un funcionamiento deficiente.
