Creon is a medication used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), a condition in which the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes. Creon is classified as a pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) and contains three essential enzymes, lipase, protease, and amylase. These enzymes replace those that the body cannot produce in adequate amounts and are necessary for breaking down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates during digestion.
