Nexium vermindert de hoeveelheid zuur die in de maag wordt geproduceerd. Het wordt gebruikt voor de behandeling van symptomen van gastro-oesofageale refluxziekte (GERD) en andere aandoeningen met overmatig maagzuur, zoals het Zollinger-Ellison-syndroom. Het wordt ook gebruikt om de genezing te bevorderen van erosieve oesofagitis (schade aan je slokdarm veroorzaakt door maagzuur). Het kan ook gegeven worden ter voorkoming van een maagzweer veroorzaakt door infectie met helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) of door het gebruik van niet-steroïdale ontstekingsremmers (NSAID's).

ESOMEPRAZOLE prevents the production of acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, certain bacteria in the stomach, and inflammation of the esophagus. It can also be used to prevent ulcers in patients taking medicines called NSAIDs.

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
liver disease
an unusual or allergic reaction to esomeprazole, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
pregnant or trying to get pregnant
breast-feeding
